Vice President External Relations, TRU Students’ Union

Key skills: Advocacy, government relations, stakeholder engagement, communication.

As Vice President External Relations for the TRU Students’ Union, I have developed strong advocacy and communication skills, which have been instrumental in advancing student interests at both the institutional and governmental levels. In this role, I served as the primary liaison between the student body and external stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and educational organizations. One of my most significant achievements was the Academocracy campaign, which advocates for amending TRU’s governance structure to ensure proper student and faculty representation in academic decision-making. I do recognize the need for greater transparency and inclusivity in university governance, therefore I spearheaded efforts to gather over 200 endorsements from students and faculty, demonstrating widespread support from on-campus community for the proposed changes. Additionally, I traveled across the BC Interior, meeting with local municipalities and securing endorsements from 10 municipal governments.

I also represented the TRU Students’ Union in discussions with local MLAs and Members of Parliament, advocating for policies that benefit students, such as increased access to affordable housing, mental health resources, and tuition affordability.
